Gaelachas Teoranta was founded in 1944 to promote the Irish language and all aspects of Irish culture through the medium of education.

The achievements of Gaelachas Teo to date include :

• Summer Irish College in Glanmire and in the Gaeltacht island of Cape Clear.
• An all-Irish Primary boarding school, Scoil na nOg.
• An all-Irish secondary school, Colaiste an Phiarsaigh.
